THE QUEEN'S DIAMOND JUBILEE

How Willingham might celebrate

Sunday June 3rd 2012

As I’m sure you are by now aware, representatives from most groups and organisations in our village have created a working group to consider how we might mark our Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. Indeed, you may recall seeing our first flyer on the subject seeking feedback on a whole raft of ideas for the day. Well, we certainly received feedback and whilst this included a single, well let’s just say less than enthusiastic response, the majority were very much in favour! In conclusion, there seems to be popular support for the event to the extent that we are encouraged to take this forward.

At our recent meeting, we reviewed the feedback and have arrived at the following draft itinerary for the day:-

10.00 Church Service
12.00 Village Hall Exhibitions
12.00 Playing Field Events
17.00 Street Party
20.00 Band & Disco in Village Hall

As you can see, the day of events lacks detail which will now be considered by those groups that have volunteered to take on the task of developing a part of the day eg. The Twinning Association have opted for the evening event. So, those involved with local groups will begin to hear more about the detail. Please don’t feel excluded if you’re not currently involved but want to be. There’s plenty to do and we’re keen to involve as many as possible, that’s what makes a great village!

You won’t be surprised to read that we need some funds to cover costs and we have already received pledges of support. That said, every little helps as they say so if you would like to make a financial contribution to the event, please don’t hold back.

We will try to keep our friends and neighbours posted on plans as these develop and you continue to be invited to participate in preparing for the day. That apart, it would be useful if we could establish approximate numbers joining in on the day itself so please help by circling one or more of the above events with numbers involved and returning to Ray Didcock, David Kent, Sue Faull, Robin Wright, Mary Clark, Dorothy Wain or Phil Troop.

In addition to the events already mentioned, the parish council wants to mark the occasion by giving every child in the village under 16 a commemorative mug.  In order to be able to do this, we do, of course, need to know who these children are!

Do you have any children in your household who will be under 16 on the date of the Jubilee (3rd June)?  If so, can you let me have details by 12th February.

The parish council is also making commemorative mugs available for purchase by anyone aged 16 or over.  The cost is £5.00 each.  If you wish to purchase any mugs, I need your order details at the same time, along with your payment.  If paying by cheque, this should be made payable to Willingham Parish Council.

Please download an application for your mug below

Any other feedback, ideas or questions very welcome!
